About Altrincham photographer Matt Priestley

Following a trip to India in 1994, and a subsequent career change some 25 years ago, I’ve worked as a full-time freelance photographer. Based Nr Altrincham, Greater Manchester. I shoot a mixture of work including photography for schools, colleges and nurseries, business headshots and portraits, industrial photography, public relations, conference and event photography, healthcare and medical photography and family portrait photography and Weddings.

I’ve had four exhibitions over the years. The first, a travelogue, shot 1993/4 during journeys through India, Nepal and the Far East. All colour and shown in 1995 at a cafe bar in Fallowfield. The second, shown at the Manchester Bar, Dukes 92 in 1998 was a portrait of Simon Green, aka Betty Legs Diamond who performs at Funny Girls Cabaret club in Blackpool. These pictures were taken as part of my photographic City and Guilds qualification, undertaken 96-98 and consisted of 20 hand printed black and white framed prints.  The third, hosted by the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester was in 2002, and part of a collaborative exhibition looking at contrasting images of New York and Manchester. The fourth, “The Water Rates” was shown at Arison Gallery, Chorlton some 15 years ago, comprising a collection of abstract images looking at water, light and movement. During 2018/19 I collaborated with Manchester’s homeless charity, The Booth Centre, producing a book and exhibition that challenged common stereotypical thinking around homelessness and the people it affects.
